How can you experience green living at home? If you want to conserve energy and live a greener lifestyle at home, there are many things you can start doing today to help you with this goal. If you’re serious about making changes to your life to “go green”, here are a list of tips, many of which you can begin right away.
1. Get energy efficient lighting- change your light bulbs to more efficient bulbs
2. Learn to reuse grey water
3. Install or switch to low-flow toilets
4. Replace old appliances with new, energy efficient appliances (Look for the Energy Star label)
5. Consider getting a low water washing machine
6. Seek a new energy efficient dryer
7. Only wash when you have a full load to save on water
8. Hang your clothing up to dry whenever possible
9. Save dishwasher loads for full loads
10. Seek energy efficient windows
11. Be sure your home is properly insulated
12. Adjust the central heat and air settings (even a couple degrees make a big difference)
13. Insulate your hot water heater
14. Turn the temperature down a couple of degrees on your hot water heater
15. Choose green roofing
16. Use recycled wood products in your home
17. Learn to recycle trash and waste from your home
18. Use reusable shopping bags and grocery bags
These are just some of the ways you can achieve green living at home. If you want to ensure you have the greenest living opportunities possible, be sure to read about it and study it often. There are always new alternatives and options available for people looking to save a little or help the earth in their own way.
Some of the changes you can make towards greener living are small and simple. It might be as easy as turning out the lights when you leave a room or unplugging appliances that are not in use. Just turning them off is not enough as they will still use some electricity as long as they are plugged in.
Other changes for green living are larger such as switching your home to solar power or learning to recycle grey water. If you’re not capable of making the big changes right now, it shouldn’t stop you from doing the smaller, easier changes. Everything makes a difference and it all adds up.
When you take your goals for green living seriously, you will see that there are many things you can do in your daily life to improve. As you do these things more and more, they will become habit and it won’t be difficult at all to improve.
