Green Living in Your Office

Green living in your office is very important in the business world. More and more companies are going green and you can take steps to support this whether you work for a company or run your own business. It is your responsibility to do your own part to help the environment. This is a responsibility that we all share.

As you may know, there are many supplies which are used in an office setting. If you truly want to make the most of green living, you need to carry it away from home and into your office as well. Just like there are many small things you can do at home to help the environment and to save money and conserve, there are also many things you can do in your work or office setting.

Here are some ways you can achieve green living in your office:

• Don’t print unless you have to- avoid printing when you don’t need to so you can save paper
• Print on the back sides of paper when it’s just for personal use and use old paper for scratch paper, take notes on old bills, etc
• Recycle everything used in the office, including when people eat and drink at work
• Go paperless- invoices and billing can be done digitally whenever possible
• Reuse and recycle printer cartridges and other office supplies whenever possible
• Reuse shopping bags- if your business sells things, you can reuse the bags. If not, you can use them as trash can liners in your office.
• Adjust the central heat and air settings to save more
• Change the filters to central heat and air often to avoid overworking and keep the machines operating efficiently
• Use energy efficient lighting in the office
• Use power saving modes on the computer
• Unplug all equipment when not in use, such as over night or weekends

You can also promote green living with how you get to work and what you do on breaks. You can ride a bike or walk instead of driving, carpool or take public transportation. Remember green living on your lunch break as well. Even the small things can really pay off.

These are all great ways to implement green living in your office. Whether you own a small business, a work from home business or work in an office setting somewhere, you can do your part to make the earth a better place to live. It all starts with one person’s initiative to do something and it builds from there to a world-wide effort. Will you make that first step?
